I did bring it up at the '97 World Council meeting, and passed around the
table a nice, inexpensive digital compass. All WC members were dazzled when I
said it was so cheap and also readable, durable, light etc. It only read
compass headings, too.
The roadblock was, and might still be, ISAF, not the Class. We are an
International Class, and also an Olympic Class. I think at that time all
Int'l and Olympic classes were restricted from using electronic anything.
Not sure if that has been changed.
