This Is my last post ..I promise
I think that the entire set of rules about where you can tie off your lines
is absurd. We voted last summer on modifications to the rig that would cost
money to implement because the current rig is somehow inadequate.
Soon we will have a world Council meeting to discuss the votes and the Laser
rigging.
I am going to that meeting as are some other folks who readthis list.
I want input.
Perhaps we should look at how the current rig is fighting this battle with
one hand tied behind its back.
So this note focuses on rules whose purposes seem opposite in intent.to the
new rigging proposals.
What does the class gain by preventing sailors from tying their outhaul to
their cunningham or some other line?
What is gained by keeping ourselves from putting purchase loops in the
traveler between the cleat and the traveler?
Why can"t we use the Mainsheet to adjust the hiking strap?
Why no thimbles in the boom vang?
Why is there a maximum size on the boom vang thimbles?
Why may only two loops be reinforced on the outhaul and why 40 mm max
thimbles.
note: the only reasonable potential application of this rule: Nobody wants
heavy thimbles on the boom. Some kid drops his thimble in the lake and still
wants to go sailing. The dockmaster offers a big old fat thimble that he
just happens to have in the desk drawer. The kid cannot use the big thimble.
Why?
Why do we still have the restrictions against Kevlar? Spectra is a better
choice. The only reason to use Kevlar is thsat it is all you cna find and
you want to sail that day. Why keep this obsolete rule??
Why may lines only be whipped 20 mm at the ends. Who cares? Why?
Why is there a maximum length of the boom van swivel?? A longer swivel would
remove adjustability. Once again. the only sailor who wants to use a longer
swivel cannot find the correct size. Why keep the rule??
Why can't e have bent tillers? The current restrictions make it necessary to
build expensive tillers from high tech materialsto make it iunder the
traveler and over the cleat. If we could bend the tiller up just 3 cm we
could use much simpler cheaper materials to construct adequate tillers. Why
this restriction??
With the introduction of inexpensive digital compasses why are we stil
banning their use? We are paying more for lesser technology. Why?
Why do we have the rule about removing the foam blocks??
I am not losing any sleep or even missing meals about this but...What do you
folks think??
