There uws an old man who used to come by my shop and leave with masts bent
and return with masts straight.
Either he knew one of those spoon bender with the mind dudes or he told us
the truth.
he filled the masts with sand
he supported them very well under the bent part so as to avoid bending them
he pushed on them and eyeballed them till they were straight.
rumor has it that a bent and straightened mast is either:
a. overstressed, permanently weak, and ruined anyway.
or
b. stiffer because it has been worked but not stronger
