Sometimes great ideas just don't quite work out. We wanted to have a really
nice shirt that had a little monogram that said North American Laser Class.
Our thoery was that the best fleet with the best boat ought to have the best
shirts on its sailors.
We looked in our own closets and pulled out our favorite stuff. We brought
in stuff we liked, that looked great and that we wore as often as we could
get away with it.
The pile included t shirts, hiking pants, life jackets, dirty sneakers, and
this great almost dress shirt. We took a photo of the shirt and ran an ad in
the newsletter and on the website.
I never ever will advertise anything that is not in my hot little hand again.
The story:
I have this great shirt that I bought at the J-22 worlds a few years ago. It
is made by a company called WEN. The shirt still looks as it did the day it
was purchased and I wear it as my almost dressed up shirt all the time.
It is a semi dark green and if it were denim it would be the scrubbed washed
version.
Instead it is woven from thick soft stuff and the inside is factory abraided
to be like fleece.
So...having loved this shirt for a few years I thought....Get some
monogrammed for the Laser class. We can have the classiest shirts for the
classiest sailors.
The folks who have done all my t shirts for the last twenty years looked at
the shirt and said, "OH it's a WEN. They are great. We love them. " We
grabbed a catalog and picked out my shirt and drew up a little monogram.
That was in September. We still have not put our hands on the first shirt.
Mrs. T shirt now is saying things like , "Fred, we are never going to order
from a tiny little company again and we especially are not going to order
from them around Christmas."
I guess that means Christmas comes even after never but she was not in the
mood for that sort of question.
Last news was that she had finally found some shirts. They were shipped, she
hopes. She was not sure what size or color was actually sent.
I am going to sort this out and either mail a bunch of checks back or have
plans for nice shirts within a few more days. I really do not want to go
find another brand. This was only done because I had this one great shirt
and I wanted to help other sailors have the same great shirt. Most of the
desirability of this shirt is the durability and I cannot test that on
another brand without another four years of personal wear.
If shirts do arrive, I am going to have to post the real colors somewhere so
folks can choose. As soon as I have product I will take photos and post
pictures . If I have your e mail address and an order I will e mail a color
chart.
Rumor has it that after 2000 everything in everyone's life will always go
exactly as planned. ( but only if they are members of the Laser Class)
Happy hollidays!!
