RE: A primer; you know you're an old laser grunt if...

Yes, I am an Old Laser Grunt...I prefer Old Laser Dog, and I'm proud of it. Dick Tillman is STILL a hero of mine. And he always will be. In addition to winning three Laser National Championships and being selected the US Rolex Yachtsman of the Year once, he has written "THE" book on Lasers, and he's a wonderful guy! He volunteers huge amounts of time to our sport every year, and races in at least three different classes (that I know of). He sets the standard for each of us very high, not only with is performance on the water, but more importantly off the water. This sport of ours is very fortunate to have a Dick Tillman. If anyone one can be considered the Father of Laser Sailing in America, Dick be on the short list. If fact, it was only last year that I had Dick autograph my copy of Laser Sailing for the '90's. Currently he is serving as the President of the US Windsurfing Assoc. and doing a wonderful job! Go Dick!!!

I remember a seminar with Dave Perry and Peter Committee in which Peter was demonstrating how to catch a wave. As Peter ooched across the stage in his folding chair Laser, all Dave could do was laugh and say, "But Peter, that's illegal!" You had to be there to understand how funny it was, but Peter is one of only three Americans to have won a Laser Worlds, how can he not be one of our Heroes?

And yes, I've bee to Asso Island and remember the Land Races, but never competed.

But do you remember the Laser Heavy Weather Slaloms (I sailed it two of them), Tinselly Island, and Max Boasted?
