The boom breakage problem could certainly be improved with the approval
of a snug fitting sleeve 6" longer than the one currently prescribed.
The problem of the board slatting around in the centerboard trunk could
be easily
remedied by allowing the use of Velcro tape for example as a bushing material.
Holding down the costs of ownership/maintenance is generally recognized
as good for the class. Seems to me that the World council should take a
serious look at problems like these. In most cases allowing some lattitude
with the problem would reduce breakdowns and reduce the net of cost Laser
ownership.
