As I see it a upper-mast made of carbon would make the Laser a cheaper boat
to sail. I race with the Radial rig but practice with the Standard rig. This
season I bent TWO upper masts, and I only sailed August-November (due to
injury). A carbon mast would have a higher price, sure, but it would last
more then half a year of sailing!
In Sweden the Europe-dinghy(Olympic class for women) is a large class, but a
new one costs aprox. 8000$ The reason why to sail a Laser is clear, but it
could be even cheaper.
