I just voted NO to the rules to allow blocks and cleats in control
lines. I'd like to have been able to vote yes, but I, too, saw a
conflict with existing rules.
Read the following excerpt from a post by ILCA's Jeff Martin "@@@ The
changes proposed are changes in principle. If they are approved the
rules will be drafted to allow the changes which would include amending
the rules concerning one continuous line. I agree it would ridiculous to
introduce new systems whilst still requiring one continuous line - a
rule which is outdated and serves no purpose when considering the
current control lines used. It is a nonsense to have have to change a
complete length of expensive spectra line just because one small part is
worn out@@@"
The problem I have with this is that if I approve a generic change to a
rule, it appears to me that the World Council will use that as license
to change several rules. That's too broad for me to approve. I get to
vote on every rule change - I'm a member!
I would rather have seen something like:
a) allow blocks and multiple purchases in control lines
b) allow control lines to be led to cleats on the deck
c) delete rule requiring one continuous line
d) etc, etc, etc
As an aside, just how would one run the outhaul to the deck? I haven't
figured out the transition from the boom to the deck. Do we assume a
new block somehow mounted to the mast?
