I've just picked up the mail about homemade tillers in the UK.
I have also made tillers out of aluminium tubing (roof aerial support
actually) and its the correct size and fits into the plastic fitting that
slots into the rudder.
The problem is - it doesn't last long. About 12 months and they snap,
usually where they are rivited to the plastic fitting.
I've now bought a much thicker section (I think its called Seasure) alloy
tiller that has a solid alloy fitting in place of the plastic one. It cost
about £45 - without extension.
I hope it lasts much longer.
