HI all,
Over the past two weeks I've started suddenly receiving messages
that say "remove" in them, apparently from people who want off the
list. This is very wierd, since I've never published any
instructions that say to do this. Either someone has used my
address for spam, someone has published incorrect information about how
to get off the list, or everyone is just very confused.
This should hopefully clear up the confusion.
To get off the laser list, send an email message to
majordomo@laser.org that says in the message body:
unsubscribe laser
To get off the digest send:
unsubscribe laser-digest
To get off the laser list and get on the digest you
could send the following to majordomo@laser.org:
unsubscribe laser
subscribe laser-digest
As far as I know, no major mailing list engine uses remove. What
typically does use "remove" is spam - and most of the
time when you reply and say "remove" they are only
verifying that your address really works. Don't ever bother
doing it, since you are only helping them.
Speaking of spam, _signed_ messages to this list from
people who are selling things is not spam. Spam is
_anonymous_ TO post something on the laser list you
must be signed up with a valid email address. Hence
I think that it is a great service that the few
vendors of sailing gear do by participating in this
forum. They aren't out to make a lot of money, or
they wouldn't be selling sailing stuff. Give em
a break.
If you sent me a "remove" message lately, follow the
procedure outlined above to get off the list.
Apologies if instructions using "remove" were posted
somewhere recently without my knowledge.
Thanks,
Will
